From an early age, we’re taught that success is measurable. At school we’re assigned grades for our work, our tests are scored and our efforts and diligence rated. When announcing my latest test-result as a kid, I was usually asked by my parents ‘what did anyone else get?’ I used to resent this but I now understand it was a means of giving the resulting context. It helped to measure my success compared to my peers and truth be told, I used to make that comparison too.

I still do.
