This article is so accurate, and reflects my experiences almost exactly. As a 42 year old, it describes pretty accurately the path of my financial life until an awakening a few years ago (if you just throw a divorce, a costly failed engagement and a second marriage in there too!). My challenge now is to instil the lesson in my own kids, the eldest of which has just left home for University. I’m curious Nicolas Cole, are there any pointers you can recommend for helping an 18 year old to understand and believe in this message, to avoid getting herself caught in the habit of earning more to spend more? How did your father get you to believe in that?

One of my biggest fears is that she’ll repeat my mistakes, particularly as my parents tried to raise me with the ethos that your father clearly did you, and yet I still managed to mess up!

Thanks for your work!
