Wait, So as a Bitcoin Fan, I’m Supposed to Want Trump for President ?
TL;DR — I do not
Ever since I first dipped my toe in the world of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, I’ve wrestled with the various other things that appear to go hand-in-hand with it.
Depending on how deep you dive into the Bitcoin rabbit hole, you’d be forgiven for thinking that embracing Bitcoin demands adherence to a number of other beliefs and practices. A belief in the role of technology and decentralization of control and authority are fairly obvious. The degree to which Libertarianism and gun-culture intersect caught me slightly off guard. A general disdain for the concept of climate change is another good one.
The thing that I’ve felt most deeply conflicted about though, as I’ve gradually accumulated a small holding of Bitcoin, is the fact that in 2024 it appears to have been adopted by the most divisive figures of the moment; Donald Trump.
The former President of the United States, who appears to have at least a fighting chance of a second term in the White House, has had a tumultuous relationship with Bitcoin, the world’s most well-known cryptocurrency. From dismissing it as a “scam” to later embracing it as a cornerstone of his political platform, Trump’s journey with Bitcoin is a fascinating study in contrasts.
